about moxibustion

Moxibustion, or moxa, is a technique from Traditional Chinese Medicine that can be enjoyed on its own or alongside acupuncture. Coming from the dried version of the herb, Mugwort, moxa is gently burned to bring warmth to specific points or areas of the body, helping to ease symptoms and encourage healing.

Moxa can be applied in several ways. It may be placed directly on the skin and removed before it becomes hot, set atop an acupuncture needle to send warmth down into the point, or held in a stick form hovered above the body, like a small glowing wand of heat.

In Chinese Medicine, this warmth is thought to move stagnation, boost circulation, and nourish your vital energy. Many people turn to it for cold, achy joints, menstrual discomfort, low energy and fertility support. It can also flip a breeched baby!

Moxa also has a distinctive earthy, herbal scent that many find grounding, calming and deeply relaxing. Between the soothing heat and that comforting fragrance, it’s no wonder so many people look forward to using it in treatments!
